We decided to stop going to Ibny because of the atrocious management style of the Director. Our last day was Friday and it was rather sad to say goodbye to the little kids and the teachers. We had really created a good relationship with the two classes we were allowed to work with. Unfortunately, I heard through the grapevine that they are going to send more volunteers there soon which I do not think is wise. The Director obviously just wants us there so she can tell people she brings in native English speakers to teach the students. The kids who should be learning English though do not actually gain anything as the schedule changes daily and there is little to no consistency in the entire program. So, I think by taking us out of there, it was sending a message that the Director needed to shape up or we will offer our services to places who really want us to be there (and there are many places here begging for help and offering to change around their schedules so they will work with ours). Oh well, I'm not in charge as I have been reminded many times in these past 12 weeks. A good thing though is that I have had the opportunity to teach conversational English to 2nd year graduate students at a university. They are smart and fun, and the hours fly by as we talk about the most random things in an effort to build their vocabulary and understanding of English.
Today is actually my last full day with the program. I will fly up to Madrid tomorrow to visit a friend I've known since elementary school who lives there, to meet up with a friend from my CCS program who will be visiting a friend there and to finally see my boyfriend who will be flying in on Friday. He and I will return to Rabat on Sunday where I will then play tour guide for about four days. It's strange to think I'll really be going home soon.
I'll be posting more pictures again after Spain. We took quite a few of our little kids at Ibny, so you'll have to look at all of them--they are so cute that it is hard to remember they come from the streets.
Watch out Spain, here I come!
